Hearth, 2024
Oil on Panel
24 x 24
Oil on Linen Mounted on Cradled Panel
“The way we meet those who change us is always a mystery — some unspoken thread pulling us together, a quiet gravity drawing one life toward another, once a stranger, a name we did not know. And yet, one day, we find them at the center of our world, as familiar as the sound of our own breath.
”Hearth is more than a fire; it is a presence, a place of recognition. It is the warmth of a home that exists not only in bricks and beams but in the spaces we share, in the silences that do not need filling. The painting is an invitation — a threshold between solitude and belonging. The figure, turned toward the fire, is a silhouette – a presence both known and unknown. It is anyone. It is everyone. It carries the long lineage of all who have sat before a flame, letting its warmth remind them of the nearness of life and the quiet sacrifice that sustains it all. To sit before the fire is to pause, to find oneself and lose oneself at the same time. Home is not a possession; it finds us — again and again — in the people, the places, and the fleeting moments that remind us we are already held.”
Dominique Medici is a figurative oil painter based in Seattle. She studied in London and has exhibited internationally, receiving awards from the Portrait Society of America, Art Renewal Center, Oil Painters of America, among others. Her work is held in private collections across the US and Europe.
