ACADEMY
Our academy, nestled within the prestigious New Salem Museum of Art (NSMA), honors the historic nature of the property by offering a unique learning experience for aspiring artists, students, and art enthusiasts alike. NSMA's Academy aims to be an institution where history and innovation merge to nurture the next generation of fine artists.
Our third floor academy takes inspiration from historic artist workshops of the Renaissance era and 19th century Parisian ateliers. The northern exposed skylights accompanied by natural wood interiors throughout creates an intimate yet stunning atmosphere for artists to grow and thrive in.
Students will have the opportunity to study with contemporary artists and examine individual masterworks up close. Our curriculum introduces students to the rich history of 19th century art academies and their influence on the collection at NSMA. Offerings include workshops, classes, figure drawing groups, lectures, and competitions.
APPLY TO BE A MODEL
NSMA is currently recruiting portrait and nude figure models for our academic programs and community open studio sessions! We hold instructed classes in both portait and figure, as well as portrait and figure open studios. Please note that the majority of our modeling needs are for multi-week long poses where artists develop a drawing or painting over the course of a month or two – this means usually means a commitment for 4-6 sessions. We also have occasional needs for one-session poses.
