2027 – NOTICE

The NSMA International Painting Competition will not run in 2027. A period of administrative transition at the museum means the competition will pause for one cycle.

We're beyond grateful to the artists, museum visitors, staff, and supporters who have made this competition what it is in 2025/2026. We could not be happier with how the first two years went – the range, ambition, and quality of the work submitted exceeded everything we hoped for – and we deeply look forward to resuming this thrilling celebration of contemporary realist art.

In the meantime, we have beautiful exhibitions of the museum's permanent collection on view currently and planned for next year, along with special exhibitions.
