There is no direct public transportation to NSMA. A train or bus can be taken to nearby areas such as Springfield or Amherst and a car may be rented to drive to the museum. Zipcars are available nearby in Amherst. Ride-share services are sparse in this region but can be available.

NSMA IS ACCESSIBLE

NSMA is wheelchair accessible with handicap parking, a ramp to the main entrance, an elevator that connects all three floors of the museum. The bathrooms are ADA compliant.

PARKING & ENTRANCES

The NSMA gift shop entrance is the museum's main entrance. This entrance is next to the smaller parking lot to the right of the museum and is accessible with a ramp. Handicap parking spots are located in this parking lot.

WHEELCHAIRS

​Manual wheelchairs are available for free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Wheelchairs must be returned at the end of your visit.

Located in the main entrance, the NSMA gift shop showcases a carefully curated selection of art books, Rosemary & Co. paint brushes and brush sets, t-shirts, hoodies, beanies, tote bags, antiques, and more!

We highly recommend picking up lunch, snacks, and refreshments at the New Salem General Store, just a 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk away. View the menu here.

Athol: 15 minute drive north up Route 202 towards Route 2

Nestled in a picturesque location, the museum grounds feature a serene patio where visitors can relax with friends and family, beautiful gardens rich with fruits and vegetables, a chicken coop, peaceful stone walkways, and a tranquil pond with a waterfall. This beauty extends to the local area, with breathtaking hiking trails and nature paths offering views of the Quabbin Reservoir.

SCHOOL GROUPS

NSMA welcomes school groups of all ages. Inspire students, connect to your curriculum, and provide the opportunity to engage with exceptional works of contemporary art in person through a visit to NSMA. Our collection can serve as a catalyst for meaningful discussion and reflection in your curriculum.

All school visits must be scheduled with NSMA staff at least one week in advance. Contact us here or at info@newsalemmuseum.com to learn about educational group rates and schedule your school group visit.

LIBRARY PASS PROGRAM

The NSMA Library Pass program provides wider access to the museum for individuals and families in the region. Each pass admits up to two adults and two children under the age of 16 to NSMA for free.

FOR VISITORS

Check with your local library for availability, participating libraries are listed below. 
To receive free museum admission with a Library Pass, present the library pass card on the day of your visit. Don’t see your local library listed? Reach out and let them know about this opportunity!

Library Passes are good only for admission by patrons of the named library during normal museum hours.
