Manu, 2020
Oil on Linen
24 x 30
Oil on Linen Mounted on Cradled Panel
Nanette Fluhr’s Manu offers a profound exploration of the human spirit, cultural identity, and inner depth. Through her signature emotive realism, Fluhr captures her dear friend and fellow artist, Manu, in a moment of quiet introspection. The painting reveals a poised yet contemplative expression, framed by the intricate textures of her traditional Sikh attire, reflecting her heritage. This delicate balance conveys both strength and vulnerability, offering a deeply personal and multifaceted portrayal. Fluhr’s use of light and color infuses the composition with atmospheric richness, inviting viewers into an intimate, timeless connection that transcends cultural boundaries. This evocative work celebrates individuality while underscoring universal themes that unite us all. This commitment to exploring universal connections is deeply rooted in Fluhr’s artistic practice and career achievements.
Fluhr’s artistic journey is grounded in both classical and contemporary techniques. After graduating from Rutgers University, she earned her BFA with honors from the School of Visual Arts in NYC, where she trained with John Frederick Murray and received the Rhodes Family Award for Outstanding Achievement. Her artistry was further honed during her time as a registered copyist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her work has been showcased worldwide, including the European Museum of Modern Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, and six museums in China, including the Beijing World Art Museum. Fluhr is also part of the Lunar Codex project, which preserves humanity’s creative legacy on the moon.
