“Celestial events evoke a feeling of mysticism and anticipation in me, and I wanted to explore those feelings in this painting. Winter’s ice is dissolving into a thin veil of mist, about to be pierced by spring’s first light spilling through the pine boughs. The unbalanced days of winter are giving way to the equal-tempered days of spring.”
Nathan Allard is a self-taught painter who resides in the woods of Maine, where he was born and raised. He works in the tradition of painters who do not use photographic reference, instead choosing to paint from life.
