Hot Sauce, Part Two: BackBurner sits at the center of a three-part painting series exploring heat as both sensation and memory. Where Part One: The Bite captures the impulsive act, this work lingers – it is a slow, internal burn settling into the body and mind. The quiet before the storm.
The composition unfolds like a woven comic strip, presenting an unexpected dialogue. On the left, objects collide in a chaotic still life, playful and uncanny. Toys, fragments, and relics of childhood stack and lean into one another, charged with unstable energy. These fetishes are my identity, holding as much of my character as my own gaze. On the right, Jared observes in quiet reflection, removed yet confronted by the residue of life’s chaos. The division is psychological – external noise pressing against internal pause.
Here, sensation becomes memory. The heat has not dissipated; it has moved inward, lingering as something ambiguous – nostalgia, discomfort, desire, and distance folded together. The “back burner” becomes a space of suspension where past and present coexist.
In other words, bring on the heat baby! The journey continues in Part Three: Unquenchable...
