Musical Portraits in Harp and Song

Zoe Vandermeer, coloratura soprano and Welsh triple harpist, presents a delightful array of baroque and classical music in her special concert Musical Portraits in Harp and Song.  The program highlights the subtlety, beauty, and signature sounds of famous composers, singers, harpists, poets, and politicians from the 17th and 18th centuries. You will hear the music of Giulio Caccini, one of the primary composers who heralded in the era of New Music (Le Nuove Musiche, 1601), a song by Dutch composer and politician Constantijn Huygens who was also one of Rembrandt's patrons, and vocal ornamentation of Handel's music by created by famed soprano Isabel Girardeau from 1711.   Notables include singer, harpist and composer Marie Antoinette, music enthusiast Ben Franklin, Mozart, harpist Sophie Corri, singer Madame Catalani, and Welsh harpist Edward Jones.  The program concludes with a sing-along of Christmas carols!

Zoe Vandermeer is a coloratura soprano, harpist and composer specializing in the music of the baroque, classical and bel canto repertoire and her own original compositions.  A prize-winning graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and on the Roster of the CT Commission on Culture and Tourism, Ms. Vandermeer has performed at the International Festival de Deia Mallorca, Rio International Harp Festival, Glasgow International Early Music Festival, Bloomington Early Music Festival, American Swedish Historical Museum Philadelphia, New Britain American Museum of Art, and elsewhere.  Her operatic debut in 2014 took place in Carnegie Hall as First Place Winner of the B. Alexander International Vocal Competition.  She has been a recipient of numerous grants, prizes, scholarships and awards including the CT Office of the Arts Grant, Dame Joan Sutherland Fund, Global Music Awards, London Classical Competition Vocal Division, and others.  Ms. Vandermeer was recently advanced to Quarter-Finalist in the upcoming 2026 World Harp Competition (Holland) featuring her own compositions.  Ms. Vandermeer is currently pursuing her Masters in Research in Performance Practice (online) at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
