MOTHER, 2025
Oil on Linen
29 x 39.5
Oil on Linen Mounted on Cradled Panel
Jose was born in Mexico City in 1994 and raised in Madrid. He studied at the Angel Academy of Art, Florence in 2016 and at the Grand Central Atelier, NYC in 2019. Since graduating, Vergara’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions across the US.
In 2024, after many years living in a big city, Jose and his family moved to the countryside in northern Spain where life runs at a slower pace. “For many years I’ve been distracted by social media and felt victim to various examples of hyper-consumerism. I always wanted to match the beauty of the masters, but it felt impossible to even try.” This new way of life made it possible for Jose to develop a stronger work ethic and set a higher standard for his artwork. “Without the constant rush of a city life, every doubt disappeared. Here, I understood good things take time and realized the path to mastery is long, but worth pursuing.”
His marriage, the birth of his firstborn, and his move made 2024 a year of meaningful changes. This painting is a testament to love while honoring his new practice.
“I created MOTHER as a timeless amulet of protection for my family.” The figure of a mythical she-wolf embraces and watches over his wife and son. “The wolf is a shield, a protector, and the fierce love I’ve experienced this year watching him grow and watching her become a mother.”
25 x 30
