A native New Yorker, Eric Leichtung was inspired to pursue landscape painting by the monumental landscapes of Frederic Edwin Church and John Frederick Kensett at the Met Museum. After receiving a Bachelors of Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design, Eric studied traditional drawing and painting at the Grand Central Atelier. He has exhibited work across the East coast, and his work is collected internationally.
“My art process begins with painting en plein air. I am enamored by light’s ability to entice the eye, and most of my compositions revolve around some light effect. I will often paint under similar conditions for multiple sessions in order to complete a plein air study. These plein air works end up next to my easel in the winter, fueling larger paintings such as View From Little Black Mountain.”
