Verdant Springtime, 2026
Oil on Linen

Oil on Linen
"In this piece, I was intrigued by the play of sunlight on the two women as they moved through the landscape – I wanted to capture the sense of movement, not only in the figures, but also in the land itself. I imagined them heading to a spot where they might relax and lay out their laundry to dry in the sun.
"I am inspired by various artists that worked from the 1870s to the 1940s, which I feel was the high point in art history, where the bar was raised for aesthetic quality in art and craftsmanship.
"About me – I’m a California native, and mostly self-taught. I attribute most of my art education to spending time painting outdoors, in nature. I try to paint the essential elements of my subjects, focusing on simplified form and color to give the illusion of detail. Much of my work focusses on the relationship between figures and their environments. I am inspired by subjects found in the American West, as well as the East Coast and throughout Europe. I work on location to gather various reference material for working larger painting compositions in the studio."
