Jack Paterson is an artist from Australia. The son of two artists, Jack is inspired by nature, philosophy, and the old masters.
His current practise explores the possibilities of compositions alternative to traditional square and rectangular paintings. Ducks by a Moat is inspired by John William Waterhouse’s work and his use of circles and broad shapes in his compositions, giving the picture a striking and original impact.
Jack is a self taught artist who learnt primarily from studying the old masters. He is particularly interested in birds within his subject matter for their beauty, and their likeness to plaster casts of which he collects and studies. These particular ducks were photographed at the Hue Historic Citadel in Vietnam, with Jack working in his home studio to complete the final painting over several weeks.
