“My artistic journey has consisted of a series of miracles. The school I attended, the artists who mentored me, and the masters whose work has transformed and inspired me, all combine to give me the conviction that what I have become and what I will become, is thanks to a loving God. He has been far more gracious to me than I deserve, so I strive to use the gifts He has given me to do what good I can, and to tell stories that matter not only to me, but to Him.”
This painting tells one such story:
In 1859, 250 Latter-day Saint pioneers took 83 wagons through the impassable cliffs of southeastern Utah, with undaunted faith in God and His prophets. The journey of the “Hole-in-the-Rock Saints” lasted six months and covered 250 miles of some of the most rugged terrain in North America. Every one of them made it.
Cheerfully and gratefully they gave everything, absolutely everything, to God, and He enabled them to do the impossible. “I love and admire them, and live hoping to become something of what they became.”
