Kathleen’s Speranza’s paintings explore the visual language of space, light, color and form as it relates to specific subjects from nature. Her current body of work investigates the poetic potential of botanical life.
Roses for Minneapolis has been in process since 2024 and was completed in February 2026.
“The subject is based on an experience I had in the magnificent walled garden at Castle Howard in Yorkshire, England. This particular rose was a towering white specimen. It had multiple flowers engaged in what felt like a delicate and mesmerizing ballet of form. That vision stayed with me as this painting went through countless changes over the past two years.
“In the last month of work, the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti took place in Minneapolis. The outpouring of courage and solidarity demonstrated by the people of that city was a moment of promise and it gave me the inspiration I needed to bring the piece to a conclusion. Roses for Minneapolis is dedicated to the two Americans who lost their lives and the community that came forward to give us the best example of our Democracy at work.”
